Ryan's Well is an inspirational documentary about the world's most valuable resource - clean water. Produced by Real to Reel Productions, it's the story of 6 year old Ryan Hreljac who saved pennies in a cookie tin to raise money to build a well in Uganda.
From the inspiring words of his teacher that got him started to the momentous trip to inaugurate his well in a village in Angolo, Uganda, Ryan's Well encapsulates the dream of a young Canadian to change the world.
Amidst the doom and gloom of news reports about young people and crime and violence, Ryan's story is a sip of fresh water.
It is motivating, inspiring and uplifting. Ryan is a catalyst who has mobilized hundreds of people to action and an international audience has been moved by his story.
When Ryan's Well was broadcast to a national Canadian audience on Vision TV in November 2001 - the response was phenomenal. People wrote in to Ryan's Website from British Columbia to Halifax.
Director Lalita Krishna was hailed for her story telling ability. Winnie Milne, a senior Board member with the Red Cross in Halifax, called in to compliment the director: "You have captured the spirit of volunteerism and shown the recipients as proud individuals with strong values. This requires a great understanding of different cultures."
Kids took time to write long paragraphs to Ryan and called him their hero and role model.
